Outpost Outlast Kingston

So I did my first Adventure Race this past weekend. I did the Outlast Kingston race with Team Synergy Support. It was a phenomenal experience. It was incredibly gruelling, but monumentally rewarding. Just to cross the finish line was such an incredible feeling. And then to realize that we actually placed fairly well in the race – somewhere around 8th or 9th out of 22 – not bad for a couple of first-timers whose only goal in the race was to not finish last. It was a rough day – the race was supposed to be 6-8hours, but due to some miscalculations by the organizers and a more-difficult-than-expected orienteering leg, we came in at just under 11 hours. After a few days of rest, I’m almost completely recovered – ready to start training for the next one.

I really need a new pair of headphones.

Happy Birthday

It’s been two years since I started this blog… hard to believe. I can’t say I’ve been blogging for two years, since if you look at the archives, you’ll notice I took a break for no less than 7 months between October 2001 and May 2002. What can I say – I was busy and bored with the way the site was shaping up at the time… in May of this year, I was itching for a creative outlet, and decided to return to blogging – hoping to raise this site from the dead and bring it up to a higher level of creativity than simply posting odd links as I used to… I’ve been trying to give it a bit more of a personal touch, as well as express more opinions and share more creative-type writings. I still sometimes revert to the old odd-link format, mainly when I’m too busy to compose my thoughts on any given subject, but I think I’ve been keeping a pretty decent balance. Anyway, I hope I have been. And I hope to keep improving… I’ve got a lot of things I want to write about, if only I could find the time.

T.G.I.M?

Most people need their weekends to recover from a tough work week… I need my work week to recover from my weekends. Not that I should be complaining- I do it to myself – and it’s hella fun… but I’m sure if it lasted any longer than 3 days, I’d be dead by 35 (I’m 29).

This past weekend:

– Friday night dancing and drinking at the favourite bar, followed by brining four complete strangers to the house and partying till 4:30am.

– Saturday night found the crew at the afterhours- I danced (sober!) till 6am.

– Sunday, I awoke sometime in the afternoon, then went for a 3-hour bike ride around the city and across the river- that night I found myself sipping martinis and dancing, arriving home at 2am- evening capped off with a glass of iced vodka.

Forcast for next weekend:

-Friday night check-in and pre-race prep for Outlast Kingston.

-Saturday: Outlast Kingston. 6-8 hours of hiking, biking, canoeing, and orienteering. Saturday night the plan is to drive back from Kingston, get some sleep, then drive 40mins north for a party under the stars.

-Sunday: oh god, I don’t even want to think about it.

Balls or ballz?

True Porn Clerk Stories chronicles the life of a woman who, you guessed it, works in a porn rental store. Funny as hell:

the inevitable similarity of titles makes it a real pain in the ass to look things up. Does the customer want Black Ball, Blackball, Black Balled, Blackballed, Black Balls, Blackballs, Black Ballers, BlackBallers, Black Ballz, Blackballz, Black Ballerz, or BlackBallerz? And does he want the one in the gay section or the one in the straight section?
