Love Hurts – Registration is required to read this article. Some guy proposes to his girlfriend, she accepts, and he goes psycho. He tells her he has a surprise for her, and takes her to the landscaping business where he works. He tells her to close her eyes and lie down, then he lays down beside her on what turned out to be a conveyer belt which was to feed them both into a wood chipper! He ends up killing himself while trying to pull her in wth him – apparently her hair got caught up in the outer rollers of the machine, shutting it off. She survived with some injuries.

Fairtunes.com Y’know, I enjoy a free ride every now and again, just like anyone else… Napster is a great way to fill your hard drive with MP3s, and I love sticking it to the record companies… but I know that while I am screwing the record companies out of their profits, I am also screwing the artist… to me, that’s not right. Fairtunes.com seeks to be a virtual tip jar, so to speak, where you can go and make payments directly to the artists if you wish to do so. Kind of a neat idea…here’s an article about it. I don’t know if this particular site is the answer to the great moral dilemma, but it could be a step in the right direction anyway. Should be interesting to see how everything ends up…

I am SO pissed off about Survivor … Rich and his alliance ruined the whole show… As long as he doesn’t win, I could probably live with the outcome. But GOD! Is he ever a DICK! … Is there really any point to watching it from here on in? The only way it could end well is if either Kelly or Sean wins immunity through the rest of the episodes. Actually, that would probably make it interesting… I guess I’ll still watch.

First DVD Recorder Debuts Panasonic just released the first consumer DVD recorder, the DMR-E10… this bad boy will cost you about $4,000 right now, but watch the price drop as other consumer electronics companies get in the game. Goodbye VCR.

Mark Burnett comes clean – Burnett and gang have admitted that they were the ones behind the little hoax that spurred weeks of speculation about who won the $1 million Survivor jackpot. According to the New York Post, he was behind the decision to doctor the CBS website to look like they accidentally revealed that Gervase Peterson, the lazy castaway, was the ultimate Survivor. Of course, when Gervase got the boot last week, we all suspected as much.

Got more nipples than you know what to do with? The Third Nipple is a site whose missions is “To help those people with additional nipples to grow and function as productive members of society through knowledge, counseling, self-empowerment, and regular encouragement.”

States Accuse Record Labels of Price Fixing – So the record labels, in their haste to sue everyone and anyone that poses a threat to their profits, have now been sued. Twenty-eight states filed suit against the “big five”, accusing them of fixing prices of compact discs… hmmm… think so? The damn things cost pennies to make, the artists get next to nothing, and we still pay $15 and up… When vinyl went the way of the dodo, it was supposed to be a good thing – CD’s cost much less than records to make, but yet the prices continued to climb. It’s time to put these SOB’s in their place!

Indentured Servitude All major label record deals suck and this is why. Highlights:

“The numbers are so stacked against the people making the music that, as recent Atlantic Records signee David Garza noted, “It only works for the artist if more than a million copies are sold. Period.”

The obvious problem with that, of course, is that of the approximate 30,000 albums released every year, less than one percent go platinum (certified sales of one million).

“We told our lawyer that we wanted to own our own masters and he was like, ‘Okay, when the Easter bunny gets through blowing Santa Claus then what else do you want?'” -Brett Daniel of Spoon, on negotiating the bands contract with Elektra Records.

Ogle away! Scientific proof that staring at women’s breasts is good for men’s health! Go to the gym for half an hour or ogle for ten minutes… take your pick guys, they’re both healthy! (unless, of course, if you get caught… then I suppose ogling could be extrememly dangerous)

Who needs human rights? In Malaysia, a former deputy prime minister was convicted of sodomy and sentenced to nine years in prison – his brother was also convicted and sentenced to six years and four lashes. All based on the testimony of their former family driver, who’s testimony was described by the judge as “unimpeachable” (even though during the case, he twice changed the dates he said he had been sodomized)
