Polar Bear Habitats DO NOT Feature Naturally Occurring Tuba Music

Ha! McSweeney’s is compiling a list of “Open Letters to People or Entities who are Unlikely to Respond.”

An Open Letter to Penguins

Dear Penguins, I would like to apologize on behalf of my species for making fun of you….I’d like to start by saying that we realize that you are not actually wearing tuxedos. We don’t quite understand the evolutionary purpose of your black-and-white color scheme, so we have simply said that you wear tuxedos to be funny….Second, the polka music. We do in fact realize that this music is not playing all the time in Antarctica. (Likewise, we are also aware that polar-bear habitats do not feature naturally occurring tuba music.)”

24

Okay, 24 has just got to be the greatest show going. Every show has me on the edge of my seat, often yelling at the screen cheering on the good guys and cursing out the bad guys. The show totally stresses me out – my heart gets racing and I’m constantly having to catch my breath in the commercials. I’m so riled up by the end of it, I have to take a walk to cool down.

Last night’s show was no exception. We’re down to the last three episodes and they’ve turned it up way past 10. I hate that I have to wait another whole week for the next one.

Goat on a pole

From Yahoo Top Photos: “A Pakistani street entertainer balances his goat on a pole…” heh. goat on a pole. I don’t know why I find that so funny. But there ya go.

Microsoft is getting out of the WiFi business

I’m not sure why they got into the business in the first place, though I’m surprised that they would be pulling out after such a short time. Microsoft is not known for throwing in the towel so quickly. I guess they realized that they weren’t going to be able to throw their weight around in a field dominated by companies that really know what they’re doing.

File this quote under “Huh?!”: “…Microsoft entered the Wi-Fi field with hopes of ‘raising the bar’ on security, ease-of-use and performance and now feels it has accomplished those goals.”

Hrm… something just doesn’t seem right here: Microsoft, Security, Ease-of-use, Performance. The words just don’t seem to work together…

On the new Blogger

I’m really impressed with the Blogger redesign. Along with all the added functionality, they’ve delivered a product that’s standards-compliant and real purty too. Lots of cool little tricks and things to be learned by ‘view source’ the next little while. Props to the design team.

Jeffrey, Doug, Dan, and Todd weigh in on the redesign. Also, a word from the horses mouth.

a little over a year later…

So for some reason roughly a year ago I stopped posting to this blog. It’s not the first time I’ve taken a break from it. I’m not a good blogger. But Blogger just relaunched with a cool new site and all these new features that I just had to try out. Also, I’ve been itching to write for some time but just haven’t found the time to setup something new or to fix what I had before.

This site has been in limbo since I lost the domain (blogbynight.com), and I’ve been meaning to setup a new site with a new domain, but well… you know. Life. and stuff. So now I’ve just moved all my archives over to blog*spot – Blogger’s free hosting service – and figure I’ll just keep things simple for now by using one of Blogger’s great new templates (this one is courtesy of Doug Bowman).

There’s some pretty old stuff over there on the right. As you can see my archives go back to 2000. Many of the links in there probably go nowhere now. And there are a lot of links. I haven’t been much of a writer – more of a link collector. I can’t say if my blog will be any better now – though I hope it will be. I’m just one of a million voices out there now. I’m not sure I can give you any good reason to read me over someone else. But here I am anyway.
