Mozilla Firefox has turned 1.0 today! Technically, this is a Preview Release, but it’s a huge step forward for the browser. Check it out.

After a few recent dog attacks in Ontario, there has been much discussion lately about banning pit bulls in the province. I think we’re ignoring the bigger problem here: dogs with guns are way more dangerous.

I’m not able to vote in the coming presidential election, being a Canadian and all, but here’s some incentive for you American readers out there: Jim and James of Hot or Not fame are giving away $100,000 to someone who registers to vote through their site.
The right to vote is one of the most important responsibilities held by members of a democracy. If that’s not enough to get you out to the polls, then maybe cold hard cash will. What are you waiting for? Get Registered already!

Burning Man was this weekend. Unable to attend this year, Petr (my travel partner from previous years), myself and a handful of friends went to a cottage Sunday night and burned a lot of stuff. And yeah, and we drank a lot too. I took tons of pictures and will post them soon, but for now here are some much more interesting pictures from Burning Man 2004. I’ll keep adding links to this post as I find them.

Some great shots in this collection of galleries from the Reno Gazette-Journal
Actually, the Reno Gazette-Journal has a whole section dedicated to Burning Man, The Road to Burning Man 2004

Google’s Gmail rocks – I’ve been using it pretty much full time for the last few months – I hadn’t intended on making it my primary email account when I signed up, but it’s just so damn good.
Someday soon I’ll be writing a post about its achievements and what in means in the scope of the coming WebOS and Google’s future strategy. I know, tonnes has been written about that already, but I’ve been noodling a few ideas recently that I wanted to flesh out.
Anyway, Gmail is still currently closed to the public and new users are able to get accounts by invite only. I’ve gone through quite a number of invites already, and have just been given a dozen more and I don’t really know what to do with them. So, if you happen to be passing by and are interested in trying Gmail, drop me a line at posativ (at) gmail (dot) com and I’ll hook you up.

Want a copy of WinXP SP2 on CD? Just fill out this form and they’ll ship a copy anywhere in the world for free. Great for you low-bandwidth types. Of course, there are a few things you may want to consider before making the upgrade.

The Register reviews WinXP SP2 and finds that Microsoft’s much-touted “security focused” update is not all it’s cracked up to be:
Microsoft declined many opportunities to harden Windows XP in a meaningful way…The home user is the one most in need of good security configurations and tools, yet the one least served by SP2.

Axis of Eve organized a “panty protest” in Battery Park yesterday. The event, as you can imagine, drew quite a number of photographers. Here are some photos from the protest. Here are some more. And here’s where you can get your own Protest Panties!
