Olympic stories untold… The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has banned athletes from posting personal stories about the games on the net. This is really unfortunate… the IOC claim they are just trying to protect their broadcast partners who have paid $1.32 billion for exclusive TV rights, making sure they don’t get scooped by the net. In the process, though, they are stifling what could be an incredibly inspiring and educational view of an Olympic athlete’s journey. “To [the IOC], the Internet represents a new form of journalism that they can’t control. This is sick… According to this

article, five teenagers (four boys, one girl) looking for free food ordered $60 worth of Chinese food to an abandoned house, ambushed the delivery guy and beat him to death. Then they took off to the girl’s house to eat the food, leaving the deliveryman who had $600 in his pocket and another bag of food. The police found the teens by tracing the cellular phone used to place the order.

Vatican rejects equality of faiths – The Vatican this week rejected the concept that other religions could be equal to Roman Catholicism in a complex theological document titled, “On the Unity and Salvific Universality of Jesus Christ and the Church.” It said that other Christian churches had “defects,” partly because they did not recognize the primacy of the Pope. At a news conference to present the document, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger said some theologians were “manipulating and going beyond the limits” of tolerance when they put all religions on the same plane.

I don’t know… I’ve got a real problem with any religion that claims to be better than all others- doesn’t this type of sentiment just breed religious, social and racial intolerance? This document made clear that for the Vatican equality refers to the “personal dignity” of individuals and not to religious doctrine. But what happens to an individuals “personal dignity” when you tell them that what they believe in is wrong?

Just Don’t Do It – More reports of Nike’s Indonesian factory mistreating its workers. According to this article, Olympic athletes paid to wear Nike sport gear were asked yesterday to reconsider their relationship with the company in light of the findings in the Community Aid Abroad-Oxfam Australia report. Among the findings: female workers who are legally entitled to menstrual leave each month were forced to pull down their pants in front of the factory doctor to claim that leave.
